Transparency In Which Certain Things Are Crossed Out
Utility shelf, chemically modified bottle glass
This utility shelf displays a variety of recipes working towards transforming amber bottle glass into colorless glass. These recipes — some of which are nearly clear, others tinged with blue, green, or purple — are made into forms indicating passage of light. On the shelf one can find light bulbs, thin screens, bell jars, bits of fresnel lenses, vertical tube draws. These forms point to our social experience of light and glass as it is shaped in very specific, industrial ways.
Displayed in seriality, these objects make a degree of reference to an industrial past, and are also opened to show process and manufacture in a new way. A bulb of an unfamiliar color. Cylinders are laid bare as thin screens.
