A Product of Sand
Utility shelf, raw materials, kilns, tools, blown and cast glass
During my residency at Wave Pool Gallery I set up the gallery as a studio space — allowing the traditional space of viewing to become, instead, a space of manufacture. During the exhibition I collected and melted local material samples into glass, performing the chemistry and labor of material transformation. Specifically, I focused on the transformation of opacity into transparency, endeavoring to explore the notion of transparency in relation to action, material and communication.
This project was made in collaboration with Samuel Ihrig and Wave Pool Gallery.
